Route down onto A472 though Ancient Woodland
The meeting held at the Soffryd Community Centre on Tuesday August 8th 2006 at 20.15 was very well attended. Thankyou very much.

Why would anyone want to indulge in such a project? The financial cost of extracting the aggregates would surely be enormous, and the environmental impact devastating. Does the firm applying for planning permission really realise what they would be doing? I have already e-mailed Torfaen opposing this project. I have just returned from a trip to the valleys and whilst there remarked upon how beautiful, clean and peaceful the atmosphere is on top of Mynydd Llanhilleth. There are flocks of chaffinches flitting about in the ancient hedgerows, quite undisturbed, and the route from St Illtyd to Pantygasseg and thence to Tranch is particularly spectacular, offering wonderful views. We encountered a lorry going to the building site at Tranch (new houses) and it seemed a crazy place to build anything, as the access road is so steep, let alone a new road connection, which would surely cost millions. I recall as a youngster walking up from Llanhilleth via various routes to St Illtyd's (after the opencast mining had gone) and the peace and tranquility was to be savoured. I do hope that the local politicians will put a stop to this nonsensical project.
